Présentation Galerie

Photo Gallery

The Talbot gallery opened its doors in September 2007 with Saint-Germain-des-Prés in the middle of the district of the galleries. Patrick Couliou, the director of the gallery, chose from the start to present young talents as well as artists experienced without confining itself with only one form of artistic expression. Painters, sculptors, photographers, plastics technicians widen the field of the expressions and the possible ones. They explore materials and matters with complete freedom. By often associating a painter and a sculptor, the galerist founded in his space a moving and interactive scenography to cause a significant dialog between different artists.

The universes of the artists supported by Patrick Couliou can appear not very compatible if one stops with appearances. At first sight, it is difficult to find a common point between the transfers on veils of boat of Antonia TORTI, raises of Andy Warhol and Giorgio de Chirico, working on mythology and the metaphysics and the resins of young sculptor NICO close to the design. How to locate Jacques LEVANT, numerical artist who builds each one of his images in weightlessness and transparency to install his quasi air suspensions in space? or the sculptor on steel BALDELLI, tracking any trace of imperfection unceasingly? Beyond the mode of expression, the discussion thread of these creators resides in a proven step guided by a handing-over in permanent question. They thus exceed the mannerism of a matierism which would have of another objective only the technical result and virtuosity. The crossings and the references are multiple. But of primitivism to the onirism while passing by the abstractions, confrontations are often carrying questionings.
The artists of the Talbot gallery express in their combat the discrepancies inherent in the creative process. The heaviness of a bronze, the stiffness of a marble, the brittleness of a ground and glass are as many challenges before the final form which emerges and erases the effort.
Quintessence is expressed in the jet of the gesture, the run-out of pure color, a graphics or a draft. The chance or the accidents of the artistic life can be a release but it is always the concept, the step and a philosophy which precede and forge the work of the artist.
